Owl Facts

Owl Facts  Owl Facts Owls: Photos and Fun Facts for Kids (Kids Learn With Pictures) See if you know any of these owl facts: Owls are raptors, birds of prey, in the same family as hawks and eagles. Owls are carnivores, meat-eaters, and they swallow their prey whole. Owls eat mammals, especially rodents, reptiles, insects and other birds. Owls are nocturnal, meaning that they are active at night. Some people think that owls can turn their heads completely around in a 360-degree circle. When you study owl facts, however, you will see that this is false. Owls can turn their heads only three-fourths of the way around. Owls are in the Order Strigiformes. There are two families of owls, the Tytonidae family consisting of barn owls, and the Strigidae family, which is made up of typical owls. The Night Owl Syndrome De-Mystified: Awake at Night, And Sleepy During The Day

The Night Owl Syndrome De-Mystified: Awake at Night, And Sleepy During The Day   You toss and you turn. You rock, then try to stay still. You concentrate on your breathing. You try visualizing. You have nature sounds playing in the background. You sprayed yourself and the room with lavender scented spray. You have a soft tea light candle lit. Before bed you took a warm, sudsy shower and put on calming night lotion all over. But you still cannot sleep. In the past you've tried sleep medication, both over the counter and prescribed. They did not work. You know why you can't sleep. It's 1a.m., much too early for you to feel sleepy. Although you enjoy the spa-like environment and continue to incorporate it in my life to relax, unwind, mediate and create an overall soothing ambiance, you know I can't use it to fall asleep. Insomnia? You don't have insomnia. You know what that is. Insomnia is experienced by approximately one third of Americans. In their case a perso...

How to Draw an Owl

How to Draw an Owl   Owls are nocturnal hunters that know how to hide, so its hard to see them in real life. But once you simplify the owl 's image it is easy to break them down into a couple of lines, and actually draw a good-looking owl in just six steps. Here's how to draw a simple owl step by step: 1) Draw the head first. In the upper third of your drawing space draw a nearly perfectly round circle, but make the circle just a bit wider on the left and right sides than it is on the top and bottom. This creates the owl 's head. 2) Now draw the body. Draw a large oval at least twice the size of the circle, just below the circle, but so that the two shapes overlap by about 10 to 20% of the circle. This big oval is the owl 's body. 3) Now draw the tail. The tail should be a long "U" shape drawn at the bottom of the oval you just made. The length should be about twice the width of the tail. 4) Add the wings inside the oval. Next, draw two long arcs insid...

Finch Species: Types and Variety of Finch Families

Finch Species: Types and Variety of Finch Families   As members of the Passerine family of birds, the finch species can be found in different parts of the world. While some of them are true finches and belong to the Fringillidae family, other similar bird families are widely called "finches". You may be surprised by the fact that some of the most popular finches are not in fact true finches. For example, the Gouldian and Zebra Finches are actually waxbills, members of the Estrildidae family. The same goes for the Society Finches which are completely domesticated bird type. In order to avoid confusion regarding the exact scientific order, we use their traditional names instead of the precise biological terms. Finch Families Unmasking the Heart: A Honeysuckle Creek Novel (2) (Finch Family Series) Zebra and Society Finches are widely considered as some of the easiest birds for keeping and breeding. Even beginners have no serious problems when it comes to making them happy ...
